Controversial Facebook Photos of the Day: Air National Guard members Terran Echegoyen-McCabe and Christina Luna recently posted to Facebook several pics of themselves breastfeeding in fatigues — which they do all the time on Fairchild Airforce Base in Spokane, Washington – and their photos have prompted outcry from around the world.
No matter that there are no rules in military conduct against breastfeeding in uniform; one disparaging Facebook comment compared the images to “urinating and defecating.”
Fellow soldier Rita Trujillo commented:
“I as one of many women who fought long and hard to be accepted and respected as fellow soldiers and the right to wear these uniforms feel shocked, angry at these published photos.”
The photos were taken for the Mom2Mom Breastfeeding Support Group, which raises awareness of women’s right to breastfeed in public.

America hates mothers in a way that is so insipid, you have WOMEN disparaging other WOMEN for doing what the breast was intended to do and being active engaged mothers.
And why?
Because “I as one of many women who fought long and hard to be accepted and respected as fellow soldiers and the right to wear these uniforms feel shocked, angry at these published photos.”
This is a statement made by a woman about how women feeding their children in their work fatigues damages her status and acceptance as a female soldier. Meaning motherhood is seen as something “weak” and breastfeeding is “dirty”.
Patriarchy is a hell of a drug.
These women fought long & hard for the right to wear these uniforms too. Do these people even hear the shit that comes out of their mouths? Fatherhood doesn’t damage status, but motherhood does? Oh my god. I may have to start screaming obscene things.
The military apparently responded and backed the naysayers, saying that the uniforms are being “misused” to “promote an ideology” or “push a cause”. You know, because airforce moms feeding their kids is totally the same thing as someone attending a political rally in uniform while holding up signs that says, “the air force supports Santorum”.
But no, they’re strict about this. You can’t pose for a photo in uniform as long as you’re promoting ANYTHING… even if it’s something as innocuous as healthy living!
You know, kind of like this photo here of this guy in uniform posing with an apple for the cause of “healthy living” on the [US Army medical department] page:](http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m4y7bcXCcO1qzpwi0o1_500.jpg)

Maybelline “Confidence” ads. SO happy with how the colors in these turned out in printing and matting. To clarify, these are not real Maybelline ads, they were created for an advertising class.
EDIT: This is important. This means a lot to me. I legitimately believe a huge mistake was made today.
These ads were a part of my portfolio into the advanced advertising program at my school. About half of the people who apply get in. I got into the first two creative classes, intro and intermediate, and I was confident I would get into advanced… especially after I posted these on tumblr and in a matter of a few hours got THOUSANDS of notes with people saying that they loved them, most people even believing they were real advertisements and not something a 21 year old student made for class.
The only reservation I had was that my portfolio was being judged by two older men. Two men who have never worn makeup in their lives. Two men who would probably not even begin to understand what this campaign means. Two men who have never been under societal pressures to wear makeup, but then being told they’re insecure for doing so.
Those reservations might have been founded, as evidenced by the fact that I did not get in. I was rejected. I got over 5,500 notes on these ads in 24 hours, yet I was rejected for not being good enough. I can’t finish the program, and I have to figure out where to go from here.
Now to the good stuff: Tumblr is amazing. Everyone who has reblogged this, whether your comments were negative or positive, is amazing. I find it truly astounding that these have gotten so much attention. These, which are advertisements selling you something, something people inherently dislike. I am humbled, shocked, and grateful. This is the first time since I’ve been in advertising that I felt like I was doing something right… that maybe, just maybe, I could make it in this industry and make a positive change.
Those dreams were squashed today. I cried, and I complained. I’m angry — but not at myself like I thought I would be. I feel they made a mistake. I refuse to believe that I’m in the bottom 50% of the people who applied. I deserve to be in that program, and I know it. Thousands of people can’t be wrong that this is a good idea. An idea that MEANS something, and idea that resonates with many people. 2 older, conventional men can absolutely be wrong when it comes to judging what makes a good makeup ad.
Here’s where you come in. Let’s make them regret their decision. Reblog this, like it, comment on it, whatever. Let’s get this attention… so much attention that they can’t ignore it. While the decisions are most likely final, I want to make them think twice. I want them to look back, and believe that they fucked up. If it doesn’t even benefit me personally, I want them to think about how fair a panel of 2 male judges is when it comes to evaluating work done by women, for an audience that consists of predominantly people who identify as women.
So let’s do this. They fucked up; I deserved to be accepted. I know it, and I have a feeling you guys know it too.
So much effort is put into the idea that women only wear colourful makeup (or makeup AT ALL) because they want “attention” or to be “looked at”, and it is absolute bullshit. I love the idea behind these mock ads!
I love makeup. I love just sitting at home and doing my makeup. It’s artistic expression for me, it’s a hobby, it’s a love, it’s an art, it’s something I enjoy from the bottom of my heart. I’ve been doing this since I was 13 or 14 years old and even in the darkest times of my life it brought me a little bit of joy to seclude myself for a few hours and play with colour and lines. Even today I’ll spend half an hour experimenting at 9:30 at night and not go anywhere at all before I wash it off. It doesn’t matter if no one sees the results and it never has: it’s simply about my enjoyment of it, and what I like about myself. This girl’s ideas are awesome and her rejection is bullshit. I hope some company picks her up and pays her a bunch of money to use this idea in an international ad campaign. <3
I thought these were real ads too!
(Ed. note- This outfit is so perfect! Such a babe!)
Look at this picture of me in a bikini from last year. I broke that bathing suit top and I miss it.

new wave feminism: The Right Look: Lightening Dark Skin For Beauty, Money and Cancer
Until today I’d assumed “whitewashing” (the practice of bleaching one’s skin to alter its color to a lighter and thus more appealing tone) had all but died in most…
Yeah I’m guessing its all about the “beauty” companies wanting to just make more money. Every color is beautiful, why do these magazines all do this?! :(
